Next Round of Iran-U.S. Indirect Talks Postponed
WANA (May 01) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei announced on Thursday that the upcoming round of indirect talks between Iran and the United States, originally scheduled for Saturday, May 3, in Rome, has been postponed.
Baghaei noted that the delay was proposed by Oman’s Foreign Minister, Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, and confirmed that a new date for the talks will be announced in due course.
Earlier, Al-Busaidi announced: “For logistical reasons, we are rescheduling the US-Iran meeting provisionally planned for Saturday, May 3rd. New dates will be announced when mutually agreed.”
Reaffirming Iran’s commitment to diplomacy, Baghaei emphasized that the Islamic Republic remains determined to pursue diplomatic avenues to secure the nation’s legitimate rights and put an end to the sanctions and economic pressure that threaten the welfare and human rights of the Iranian people.
“Iran’s negotiating team, from the outset, has approached the talks in good faith, outlining clear frameworks based on our principled positions and international law,” Baghaei said.
“These frameworks reflect our stance on the peaceful use of nuclear energy and the need to lift illegal sanctions. We are committed to serious, result-oriented negotiations aimed at achieving a fair, reasonable, and lasting agreement—and we will continue on this path with resolve and strength,” he added.
The first round of these indirect negotiations between Iran and the U.S., mediated by Oman, was held on April 12 in Muscat, and the second round of talks took place in Rome on Saturday, April 19, again with Oman as the intermediary. The third round of talks was also in woman and took place on Saturday, April 26.
